Even though we’re into Day Three, there’s still lots to talk about!
Lumens has unveiled a new AI-based auto tracking camera as well as a new media processor. The VC-TA50 camera has integrated facial recognition to automatically track and frame a presenter. Designed for autonomous shooting, it’s great for studios, lecture theatres, business conferences and houses of worship.
The LC100 2-channel HD recorder and streaming media processor is also aimed at live events, lectures and meetings. It’s an easy to use, all-in-one device that ISO records, switches, mixes, streams and captures the program output.
Incidentally, check out Lumens’ handy Mini Guidebook to NDI – definitely a useful reference for what is fast becoming the dominant video-over-IP protocol for live streaming.
Vitec’s Creative Solutions Division houses the SmallHD and Teradek brands and they have also been busy announcing new products. There are two new monitors from SmallHD: Cine 18 and OLED 27.
Intriguingly described by the company as ‘Goldilocks-sized’ (ie ‘just right’ for many on-set roles) the Cine 18 is an 1100 nits 4K studio monitor that offers a perfect blend of screen size, brightness, colour accuracy, and portability. It’s ideal for Video Village, ACs, DPs, DITs, or as a director’s monitor. OLED 27 is SmallHD’s brightest and largest 4K HDR OLED reference monitor yet, offering the best combination of premium color accuracy and lightweight, set-ready portability. OLED 27 delivers up to 550 nits of brightness and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio for previewing HDR on set, as well as 10-bit, true-to-life color accuracy with 110% DCI-P3 & 135% Rec.709 color gamuts for precise grading in the suite.
Teradek has introduced a new range of affordable Bolt 4K LT HDMI-based products, compatible with the rest of the Bolt 4K range. Starting at just £1750 / €2100 for a TX/RX Pair, the Bolt 4K LT HDMI range boasts zero latency – still a big differentiator over wifi-based alternatives – and has a range of 750 feet.
Owners of SmallHD Smart 7 monitors and Teradek Bolt 4K Transmitters and Receivers can now create a cable-free setup with Teradek Wireless Camera Control. Starter Kits will be available for Bolt 4K and the Bolt 4K LT, allowing you to control a variety of cameras – including ARRI, RED and Sony – from up to 5,000 feet away.
Teradek also announced Serv 4K, an all-in-one streaming solution that allows for easy real-time monitoring both on set and remotely. The device takes an SDI/HDMI input from the camera (up to 4K60), encodes it and distributes the video to on-set collaborators and remote team members with access to the cloud.
SKAARHOJ has been demonstrating the continued expansion of their Blue Pill technology. Described by CEO Kasper Skårhøj as “a booster technology for our existing panels” to add additional funcitonality, at NAB we saw how Blue Pill technology is now being built into new products from scratch, for example in the new Air Fly Pro universal PTZ controller and live switcher with integrated T-bar.
Also on show were updated versions of the multi camera remote control panel Color Fly and audio control unit Wave Board. For more information, Skaarhoj has recently published an excellent online resource – https://wiki.skaarhoj.com/.
