How do I control Pearl Mini?

or confidence monitoring and easy switching, recording, and live streaming control, you can use Pearl Mini’s touch screen or Epiphan LIVE, which is a tablet and mobile friendly web interface designed for easy control of your Pearl Mini. And secure remote login allows you to control your Pearl Mini from just about anywhere there’s access to the Internet.

How do I configure Pearl Mini?

Pearl Mini is ready to use right out of the box! Plug in a source into the back of Pearl Mini and you can capture, stream and record right away! For additional configuration, use the web-based Admin panel interface on the same local network as your Pearl Mini. With secure remote login, you can access the web-version of the Admin panel from just about anywhere there’s Internet access to do rescue troubleshooting and channel configuration.

The touch screen lets you control switching for Pearl Mini’s video mixer, load saved configuration presets and perform recording or streaming control.

Advanced users can use Pearl’s HTTP or RS-232 APIs to integrate with larger systems.

Is remote login secure?

Yes! A secure propriety tunnel over port 443 is used to access the Internet so you can do rescue troubleshooting, recording control, and even channel configuration from just about anywhere there’s access to the Internet.

How many sources can Pearl Mini capture?

Pearl Mini can encode multiple Full HD 1080p programs at a time. Within your program(s), you can use multiple cameras and sources connected to Pearl Mini’s two HDMI ports or 3G-SDI port.

What codecs does Pearl Mini use?

Pearl Mini currently supports AVC video encoding (e.g. H.264 and MJPEG codecs) for encoding at all resolutions up to Full HD 1080p

Can I plug my USB web camera into Pearl Mini?

Yes. You can connect one USB web camera or audio device to either of the two USB 3.0 (UVC/UAC) ports on the rear panel.

Can Pearl Mini switch, record and stream over a Local Area Network (LAN) or is an Internet connection needed?

Pearl Mini does not need a LAN or Internet connection to capture and record video. The user-friendly touch screen displays the video encoder’s stream for confidence monitoring and provides a fast and easy way to apply configuration sets, control switching or recording, and view system information. If connected to the Internet or a LAN via an Ethernet cable, Pearl Mini provides a web-based control interface for configuration and operation.

Live streaming over a private LAN is a great idea for employee training and it’s simple to do using Pearl Mini. If you want to stream to a wider audience on platforms like YouTube or Facebook, you’ll need a network connection with Internet access; otherwise, your viewers or CDN won’t be able to access your live stream.

Secure remote login gets you access to the web-versions of the Admin panel and Epiphan Live so if you want, you can remotely control recording and so much more from just about anywhere there’s Internet access.

Holdan 2021 | The Evolution of video throughout the pandemic

March 2020 and as lockdown started it was all about getting better and better web cams. We saw how awful the Zoom interviews on the news looked, all blocky backlit shadows and up-nose shots. A simple LED panel light would make a huge difference, and these flew out of the warehouse. The LEDGO LG-E268C has been on my desk ever since, on a tiny light stand which cost me £5.

Sharing Worship Events to a Worldwide Audience

Streaming has long been associated with worship outreach in America, the middle east and Africa. The UK and Europe are now following suit with the faithful viewing live and recorded worship events online via Facebook and YouTube channels. So what options are available, and can it be easily set up by volunteers? Record and Upload You can choose to record an event ahead of time and upload an MP4 video file to Facebook or YouTube. Most video is streamed at 720p so set your camera to record at this video standard.

Pearl Mini / Pearl 2 v4.13

What's new in release 4.13?

We've made some awesome changes in firmware 4.13. Integration with AV Studio is replaced with Epiphan Cloud - your new destination to remotely manage and operate your Pearl Mini / Pearl 2 devices. We also made it easier for you to troubleshoot installations with more diagnostic tests and statistics. And we added support for Dynamic DNS (DDNS) and DHCP Option 81, making sure you have seamless access to Pearl Mini on the network even if a DHCP server changes Pearl Mini's IP address. Plus more enhancements are available in this latest release.

Firmware 4.13

Epiphan Cloud support Manage all your Pearl devices from Epiphan Cloud with a diagnostics dashboard for remote rescue troubleshooting, configurable email alerts, channel creation and configuration from the cloud, confidence monitoring, batch operations, remote firmware updates, and more! It's easy to get started with a free Epiphan Cloud account. For details, see:

Diagnostic tools

Diagnostic tools are added to the touch screen and Admin panel so you can instantly check the connectivity status of Pearl Mini, get the external IP address of your Pearl Mini, and more. From one easy location, you can run network diagnostics like ping, traceroute, test the network upload/download speeds, confirm domain name resolution, and probe to see if a network port is open on the network side.

Scheduled AFU

Now you can schedule file uploads to only occur during a specific period of time every 24-hours. Recordings that end within the configured time period automatically upload right away. Recordings that end outside the upload time period are queued up and upload when the scheduled upload time period is reached.

DHCP Option 81 (FQDN) support

Ensure your Domain Name Server (DNS) always has Pearl Mini's most up-to-date IP address mapped to Pearl Mini's Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN). Option 81 support means you can keep using Pearl's FQDN no matter how many times the DHCP server may change Pearl's IP address. Pearl Mini automatically asks the DHCP server to tell the Domain Name Server (DNS) to update Pearl Mini's record with any changes to Pearl Mini's IP address or FQDN.

Dynamic DNS (DDNS)

If the DHCP server doesn't support Option 81, no problem. Enabling DDNS ensures that whenever the DHCP server changes Pearl Mini's IP address, Pearl Mini informs the Dynamic Domain Name Server (DNS). Use Pearl Mini's FQDN without worry because the domain name records are always kept up-to-date. Custom,, and DDNS servers are supported.

Panopto low storage alerts

Now you can configure Pearl Mini to not send low storage alerts to Panopto.

SHA hashing algorithm support

We added support for SHA-256 and SHA-512 hashing algorithms for HLS (push) and MPEG-DASH stream authentication.

Changes affecting remote login using AV Studio

AV Studio is going away

AV Studio is being replaced by Epiphan Cloud. You'll now see Epiphan Cloud instead of AV Studio in the Admin panel as a configuration option. When the switch over occurs, Pearl Mini devices that are currently paired with AV Studio automatically migrate to Epiphan Cloud. Previously uploaded recordings and scenes related to AV Studio's post-production tools are not accessible from Epiphan Cloud. After updating Pearl Mini to firmware 4.13, all pairing functions from the Admin panel link to Epiphan Cloud. To access your devices, simply create a free Epiphan Cloud account or use your AV Studio credentials to login to Epiphan Cloud at:
