Core SWX recently announced three new battery products to power, accessorise and fill out your production kit. Let’s take a look at these new releases and see what they can do for your rig.
With a small form factor of 9.6 x 14.9 x 6.2cm, weighing just over 1Kg and available in both V-Mount and Gold Mount, the Nano XL is a 14.8v battery with 178Wh capacity and a 10A load. This makes the Nano XL ideal for long runtime shoots and high power-draw equipment, such as LED light panels and more power-hungry cameras.
Although it doesn’t have the 293Wh capacity of its bigger sibling, the Hypercore XL, it still offers a lot of power whilst reducing the overall size and weight. It’s a perfect solution if you’re wanting a leaner, more lightweight camera rig.
The Nano XL comes with some of the usual features you would expect from a Core SWX battery:
Overall, the Nano XL offers big power in a small package, at a very affordable price.
A variation on the Shark-fin Adapter, the Micro Hot-Swap Adapter is designed for use with smaller, “micro” sized Gold or V-Mount batteries, such as Core’s Nano Micro batteries or third-party equivalents.
A standard T-shaped sharkfin adapter mounts directly onto the battery plate of the camera. On the adaptor you can mount two batteries, at 90 degrees to the camera, back-to-back. By replacing a spent battery with a fully charged one, this provides continuous power to your camera, or lights, where mains power isn’t available. The Micro Hot-Swap Adapter does the same thing but, as it uses micro batteries, they can be mounted one on top of the other and flat against the back of the camera. A big advantage of this is that it takes up roughly the same amount of space as a standard sized battery pack, while still providing the benefits of continuous power through dual-mount hot-swapping.
With Sharkfin adapters Core SWX recommend putting the second battery on around 10 minutes after the first. This is because the batteries are drained simultaneously, so doing this will give you a window for replacing the fully flat battery first, without losing power to the camera.
Similar to the FX9 Plate, the FX6 Plate inserts into the battery slot of the camera, screws into the top of the camera body and allows you to mount Gold or V-Mount batteries to the FX6. This will allow you to power the camera for far longer than you could with the BP-U style batteries and, as it includes DTap and USB connections, you can also power a couple of accessories, such as a Teradek Bolt TX or SmallHD monitor, too!
There is a Low Battery indicator and DC input on the side for hot-swapping between internal and external power. You can also keep a small battery (up to BP-U100) fitted in the camera’s battery slot, which will kick in when the V-mount dies, giving you a backup if you are mid-take and enough time to swap the main battery out. All three of these new products are available in Gold and V-Mount options. For more information, check the links above, contact us through our website or get in touch with your preferred reseller.
