Affordable External Video Storage

Sonnet’s rackmount Fusion R400 RAID storage has a fast USB 3.0 interface and a dedicated hardware RAID controller. It is fast and affordable, using four 3.5” HDD drives with up-to 24 TB of disk space.

Low-cost, Flexible Storage Workflows

Sonnet’s rackmount Fusion R400 RAID storage has a fast USB 3.0 interface and a dedicated hardware RAID controller. It is also very affordable, using four standard 3.5” HDD drives with up-to 24 TB of disk space. Sonnet Fusion R400 RAID system supports the following drive configurations:

RAID 0 | RAID 5 | RAID 10 | SPAN | JBOD

High Performance

Fusion R400 achieves read bitrates of up to 240 MB/s over USB 3.0 (RAID 5). This is enough to stream ten simultaneous ProRes 422 (HQ) videos in 1080p. This is far faster than the performance of a typical single SATA HDD drive.

Massive, Secure External Backup Storage

Drives built into desktop computers or laptops lack capacity and are inherently insecure. Rather than buying multiple external USB drives, the Fusion R400 RAID can be configured to RAID 5 array to provide protection against disc drive errors. With 4 x 6TB drives installed, users benefit from usable 18TB capacity and a high level of data security.

Large Scale Video Storage

High Speed Mirrored RAID 5 Arrays

Teams with mission critical projects and valuable assets demand the highest level of data security. Indeed, many insurance policies dictate that multiple copies of files are kept. Two Fusion R400s can easily be set up to mirror each other’s data using standard backup software.

In the example below we add a second Fusion R400 unit to an xMac mini Server which will (manually or automatically) back up the first unit. With both R400 units configured to RAID 5, the full 18TB of storage is copied for complete data redundancy. Alternatively, both arrays can be set to RAID 0 mode which delivers even higher read/write performance and users have access to the full native 24TB of storage. Moreover, by mirroring the two storage systems, the worry over RAID 0’s lack of data security is addressed.

Central Shared Archives

Data sharing across a network has a number of benefits.

• Teams benefit from centralized media management, archiving and data security
• Data is stored once on a central server, with no wasteful file duplication on multiple devices
• Files can be searched and retrieved quickly from the archive
• Media can be centrally processed and re-purposed by the managing server (in this case a Mac mini)

Fusion R400 can be used as a low-cost central storage system by small workgroups, benefiting from up-to 18TB RAID 5 protected storage.

In the example below, an xMac mini Server with a Sonnet Presto Gigabit Server PCIe card installed makes the data accessible over an Ethernet network - and thanks to link aggregation without any loss in performance. A number of connected workstations can now share the available bandwidth via standard Gigabit Ethernet (see our Presto Gigabit USB 3.0 for computers such as the MacBook Air that lack a RJ45) and access HD video and audio content from the server.
